Miri is a rapidly expanding business & commercial centre & the home of Sarawak’s oil industry. It is located in North-East Sarawak close to Brunei border. In recent years Miri has become a major tourism gateway & the jumping-off point for some of Sarawak’s world-famous National Parks, including Mulu Caves, Niah Caves, Lambir Hills. Other interesting destination such as the Kelabit Highlands are also accessible from Miri.
The town is fast becoming an important tourism destination in its own right, and plans are in hand to transform it into a resort city. Construction has already started on the new Miri Waterfront, and this will be followed by a world-class Marina. Miri has an excellent range of hotels in all price categories, and probably the best selection of food outlet in Borneo. Combine this with vibrant night-life, bustling native markets, traditional longhouse culture and a number of popular beaches nearby, and Miri makes an ideal base for exploring the National Parks and great place to relax for a few days after the rig ours of jungle trekking.
